Fake Delivery phone scams

Fake delivery scams claim to be from USPS, UPS, FedEx, Amazon, or another shipping or e-commerce company. The caller (or an automated message) tells you a package is held up due to an unpaid fee, missing address, or "customs charge" and asks you to pay a small amount immediately, usually by clicking a link they text you. The link leads to a phishing page that captures your card details and personal information. Legitimate carriers do not phone individuals to demand small fees over the phone for routine delivery.

What to do if you've been targeted

  1. 1

Do not click any link in a follow-up SMS — open the carrier app and check tracking yourself.

  2. 2

If you are expecting a real delivery, contact the carrier directly using the number from their official site.

  3. 3

Forward suspicious texts to 7726 (SPAM) on your carrier and report the call.

Common questions

FAQ

How does CallerScoop classify a number as fake delivery?
We aggregate signals from FTC Do Not Call complaints, FCC consumer complaint data, and verified user reports. When multiple independent reporters describe a number with consistent script details, our scoring engine elevates the risk score and tags the dominant category.
Why does the caller ID show a number I trust?
Caller ID is trivial to spoof. Scammers can display any number — including a real bank or government line — to make the call look authentic. Treat caller ID as unverified, especially when the call demands urgent action.
How do I report a number I received?
Use our report form — it takes 30 seconds and helps protect others. For larger losses, also file with the FTC at reportfraud.ftc.gov and (if you lost more than $500) with the FBI IC3 at ic3.gov.
